I think you should consider northern part of Ankeny, it is much nicer town to be in when you are off work and school.

If you'll work full time, then I think you'd need to be more often in Urbandale than in Ames. Ankeny to Ames should take more than Huxley to Ames, but you can drive 75mph anytime.

Ankeny would be a fine alternative, but Ankeny rents are substantially more than Huxley. Not to mention the alot of the rental units on Ankeny's north side are dumps.

Huxley is not far from Ankeny. If you want to save rent money and are willing to add 10 minutes each way to your commute, I'd say go for Huxley.
