This Thursday, Veteran's Day the 11th, Applebee's will hold their Veteran's Day Dinner. There are selected dinners on the menue for the Veteran's/Active Duty/Reservists for free. We went to this last year and I had a nice steak dinner and met a few Viet Nam era Vets there. Was really cool! Applebee's website does say that some type of military service proof will be needed.

The following Monday, Nov 15th 5PM, Golden Corral restaurants will be holding their Veteran's Appreciation Dinner which is also free to all Veterans/Active Duty/Reservists. Golden Corral does not require any military service proof though.

As a former Navy Viet Nam era Vet, I want to say THANKS to Applebee's and Golden Corral for the free dinners!!

Thanks for the post LoveBoating and thank you for your service. As an Army vet, I happily accepted Golden Corrals offer last year. I wasn't aware of the Applebee's deal, so that's great.

Many thanks to all dining establishments and retailers that give back to those that have given so much.

<Salute to all veterans>

Dear Husband is a Vietnam Vet - he loves to go to the Golden Corral for his free dinner every year. He just likes being there with the other vets on this occasion - more so than the free food.

I love eating, but also like talking to the Vets that were in the same time I was. Really cool!

Just looked at the Hooter's website/Events and it says "all Active or Retired w/military ID". What if a Vet is neither? Some Vets never retired from the military, like myself. The only form of ID a former military person (not active, reserve or retired) would possibly have is their DD-214 or VA Medical Card. Some former Veteran's don't have either of those ID's!
From what I can see, Chili's has nothing on their website about Veteran's Day.
Golden Corral does not ask for any kind of military ID at all!

Just now thought of the reason for the ID requirement.........
There were news reports some months ago about a couple of guys faking being in the military. One was at his class reunion and the other had made appearances dressed as a General (real uniform). Neither had ever been in the Service! Actually, from what I know, anyone can go to a Army/Navy store and buy ribbons/metals and a complete uniform.

My deepest appreciation to those who have served/are serving in the military in any branch (Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, etc). I love you folks. I say this as having family and friends that are serving America proud. All vets stand up! Y'all deserve it. And yes, it's not uncommon for military fraud to occur. That's been going on for years; folk dress up as military personnel just so they can get free meals. Idiots

Wife and I had dinner at Applebee's last night with another couple. Both of us husbands were in during Viet Nam, me/Navy, him/Army. Neither of us were asked for Military ID, but we had it. I figured I talked to the waitress enough about both of us Serving that there was no doubt to her that we were Veteran's. Applebee's dinner was "ok" (and I personally thanked the Host for Honoring us), but I sure like Golden Corrals better!
