We don't live in JAX but my 92 year old Dad does. Although parts of his body are kind of falling apart - his mind is still pretty sharp. I have recommended - based on what I've read and what people here have said - that he vote for Audrey Moran for Mayor. Today he called and asked who he should vote for in the city council elections. I don't have a clue (and told him so). He lives in the Carriage Club - a retirement community between JTB and the Avenues Mall a little west of Southside. Don't know what district that is - or who's running - but there are apparently 5-6 candidates (1 independent - the rest Republicans if he's reading his sample ballot correctly).

Any recommendations from those of you in Duval County? And a few words why. My father not only lives in a senior facility where many people get together for dinner every night and discuss politics - but he also attends OLLI classes at UNF - so if you can make a case for a good candidate - I will forward the info to him - and he can "spread the word".

FWIW - my father's only "hot button" issue is Israel - and I doubt that is an issue in the city council elections . Robyn

City Council District Maps: http://www3.coj.net/City-Council/Doc...strictmap.aspx

At-Large District Map: http://www3.coj.net/City-Council/Doc...strictmap.aspx

Everyone can vote for the 5 At-Large positions.

At-Large Group 1: Candidates For City Council At-Large, Group 1 - Duval County Elections News Story - WJXT Jacksonville (http://www.news4jax.com/duval-county-elections/26873596/detail.html - broken link)

These are all terrible candidates in my opinion. I'll probably vote from Kim Daniels, just because I've heard her have at least 2 original, rational thoughts come out of her mouth before. The other 2 have had zero.

At-Large Group 2: Candidates For Jacksonville City Council At Large, Group 2 - Duval County Elections News Story - WJXT Jacksonville (http://www.news4jax.com/duval-county-elections/26915921/detail.html - broken link)

I'm torn between Tom Patton & John Crescimbeni. I like Patton's background and he comes off as great candidate in-person, but Crescimbeni has done a good job over all and knows the ropes. I'm not sure....

At-Large Group 3: I think Stephen Joost is running unopposed.

At-Large Group 4: Candidates For Jacksonville City Council At Large, Group 4 - Duval County Elections News Story - WJXT Jacksonville (http://www.news4jax.com/duval-county-elections/26916593/detail.html - broken link)

I'm voting for Juan Diaz. He has great energy, fresh ideas and perspective, and is works his butt off. He'd be a welcome addition to the Councl, in my opinion.

At-Large Group 5: Candidates For Jacksonville City Council At Large, Group 5 - Duval County Elections News Story - WJXT Jacksonville (http://www.news4jax.com/duval-county-elections/26934708/detail.html - broken link)

I'm voting for Michelle Tappouni. She's authentic, genuine, and a smart leader. She would also inject some much needed life into the Council.

Thanks ever so much for this - I didn't even realize there were at large elections. I have forwarded your message to my father. Told him you were a little more liberal than we are - but make decisions based on what you think will best help JAX/Duval County. I think that's a pretty accurate description . FWIW - for the most part - I and my husband and my father are like lots of people in the US - the "moderate center" that is mostly ignored by both major political parties today (at least at the primary level that frequently decides what candidates we will have to choose between in the general election). We are a little more conservative on some things - a little more liberal on others. But - for the most part - we are moderate on most things.

And - being Jewish (except for my husband - who is unofficially Jewish ) - well to us education is something a community should never neglect. My father wasn't the most perfect father in the world - but if his and my late mother's dedication to their children's education could be cloned - the US would be a much better place IMO. Robyn

P.S. Also just forwarded your message to about a half dozen people in JAX I know pretty well (all live or work with lots of people). And thank you for including the links in your message (most of these people are pretty intelligent - like they work at Mayo or something like that) - and the links will give them a quick way to look up the candidates.
