You'd think they would be better if that is the case.

Pretty easy when you can cherry pick? Really fsu813? Get a life. If it's so easy for private schools to 'cherry pick', how come Bolles is the ONLY private school to enjoy that kind of success? Granted, Bishop Kenny and Episcopal has enjoyed some degree of their own athletic success, but nothing compared to Bolles. Why don't you give everyone a list of all the other private schools that have won 11 state championships in the past 25 years, in ANY sport? If cherry picking is the answer, how come private schools don't win every sports championship? Bolles doesn't cherry pick. As correctly indicated above, Bolles has very high academic standards. Those standards are not compromised for any potential students, regardless of their athletic abilities. Bolles wins because it has great coaches, great facilities, a tremendous winning tradition, and outstanding acedemics. As a result, many parents that have the means, look to Bolles as the perfect option for their own student athletes. In short, Bolles doesn't need to recruit. They have more than enough students knocking on their door. Success breeds success.

That said, since you have chosen to pick a fight with a subject you obviously know little or nothing about, I will be happy to further educate you. It is your school, Stanton Prep that has the easiest opportunity to cherry pick. Stanton has 400 students in each grade 9-12. (1600 total students) Of those 400 students, 250 are admitted through the highly questionable lottery system, or from new military families. These 250 students do not need to meet any prior academic standards, other than to be passing students. In other words, Stanton could allow any student to enroll and fill any of these 250 slots. The other 150 students are admitted into the IB program. This IB program requires an application and a proven record of prior academic success. So, basically Staton and/or Paxson could choose to select any IB students that they want to, as long as they showed academic promise. (Just like the Bolles standards) That's 150 opportunities within each class to pick whoever they want.

Now, obviously Stanton's overall athletic program is quite poor, but their soccer teams have enjoyed a modicum of success. So, I guess the Stanton administration is cherry picking good soccer players from the surrounding schools?

Default Bolles doesn't recruit.

As a parent of two Bolles athletes, I have to agree with Nomad.

We have two childred that are currently attending Bolles. Both came out of the Duval County public school system, and both are heavily involved in several different sports teams at Bolles. At no time were we ever approached by anyone from Bolles about enrolling there. No mention was ever made about any special financial aid considerations, and both children had to take, and pass the rigorous Bolles admissions test.

In the past year, as we have sat in the stands of numerous games, cheering on our children, we have had many opportunities to talk with the parents of other Bolles athletes. None of these parents had childrent that were recruited, and none of them were given any special admissions treatment.

Just to give you an example of how seriously Bolles takes their admission requirements, one of my children has an academic advisor who has been trying to get their own child into Bolles for the past several years. Each year, that teachers child still has to take the admissions test, and each year that child didn't meet the score requirements. So each year, that child has been refused admission. So, I can say with a high degree of certainty, Bolles does not bend its admission standards, just to attract, and enroll potential athletes.

Once our children were old enough to start High School and Middle School, we started reviewing all of the options available to us. Fortunately, we had the financial means to consider private schools too. Our oldest High School child, being an excellent student, was accepted into both the Stanton and Paxson IB programs, while our Middle school child was picked in the lottery system to attend Cookman. In addition, we had the option of attending our local district schools, and enrolling in AP classes. So, we basically had the best options that the Duval County School system could offer. We ended up picking Bolles because its academics were easily on par with the programs at Stanton and Paxson. In addition, Bolles offers great facilities, great coaches and an undeniable winning tradition. All in all, Bolles offered us by far best well rounded educational option.

So, I agree with Nomad. Bolles doesn't need to recruit. I would think that any parents that have the financial means, would at least consider Bolles as a great option for their student athlete. Why not?
