Hey guys, my husband is looking to work in Jacksonville. I know Jacksonville is a huge city and I'd rater not actually live there but maybe in the surrounding areas that are a bit more safe but have some fun amenities and that are family friendly. We also have three animals, 2 cats and a border collie - lab mix who is not small so we need a place that will allow animals. We aren't looking to rent a house but maybe a condo, townhouse or apartments. I don't know the safe areas outside of Jacksonville, so any suggestions?

Thank you <3

I would suggest to you to look in the northern part of St John's County. An area with tremendous population growth and top rated schools. As for looking for a rental in the area, those are very few and very hard to come by

Check out places like Julington Creek, Durbin Crossing, Fleming Island and Yulee on the north side.

Ok, I'll give those places a look up. Any other suggestions on places to rent? It's hard finding condos, apartments or townhomes that allow 3 pets that are in safe areas. Being new to town we defiantly want to be safe So far though we are looking at Julington creek

Also, what about areas to avoid?

Do you know where his job will be? If you know that, it will help to pin down an area. You really don't want to living in Northern St Johns if he is working close to the airport or in the west side. That is not a pretty commute.

You may want to try the intracoastal west/East Arlington area. There are lots of condos/townhomes there and it's generally a safe area that will be closer to downtown or the airport/N Jax if that is where your husband is working. I worked in that area and had a lot of coworkers who lived over there and they all really liked it. There are some decent parks and you are also really close to the beach.

As RamenAddict noted, Intracoastal West/East Arlington area is great (zip 32224.) I live there and I am 8 miles from Jax Beach and less than 2 miles from major retail areas. I walk my dog at night and feel safe and many middle school kids walk home by themselves once they get off the bus. I love it. And, if you can get in the Chets Creek elementary school area then you are in one of the better schools in the area.

Wow, thanks guys. Alot of great feedback. I know looking for safe areas is a bit difficult because its based on a personal opinion but I appreciate all the great suggestions and of course if there are anymore, I would still appreciate as much suggestions as possible. Coming out of town is a bit scary when trying to find a place to live.

Unfortunately we aren't sure exactly what part of town he will be working but are prepared for a bit of a commute so that we can live in a safe area.

Hey guys, can anyone tell me about Mandarin, Bay Meadows or just south Jacksonville? Which areas are also considered to be suburbs of Jacksonville? Please and thank you for the feedback
