My husband and I are trying to decide between retiring in Ponte Vedra Beach or Hilton Head Island.
We currently live in Orlando and want a quieter atmosphere. We are conservatives and would like to live in a more conservative area. We are looking to spend about !.5 M for a home. My husband is a big golfer so obviously both places have several great choices for golf.
We have visited both places and are torn because they both have many pros and cons. I'd love thoughts and insights from those who live in either place. Thank you.

That's a tough choice. I have not spent much time at Hilton Head (and not much of a golfer). I know PVB is a great community and has great golf options (and TPC every year). There are also tons of other great golf options within 30-60 minutes from PVB.

Golf = Hilton Head
Conservative politics = Equal
Tax savings (as you already know) = PVB
Healthcare = PVB by a country mile (should be your main concern IMO)

TPC means The Players Club. This place lives and breathes Golf, they are building a new $65 million dollar PGA Headquarters here.

The TPC Clubhouse is a must visit, when we have out of town guests:

Even though Hilton head has good golf I think of it more as a bigger tennis spot, and PVB definitely as a big golf destination.

Ponte Vedra is a golfer's paradise and there are a ton of conservative people here. There are also aspects of city life nearby (couple of museums, many movie theatres, symphony, etc. )without the hassle of a city. Hilton Head seems a bit more remote from what I hear.

We live in Ponte Vedra Beach, we don’t golf but we love it here. Close to everything including beautiful beaches. Lots to do. The traffic on Hilton Head seemed intense.

We live in Charleston and if we had to do it again, we would have moved further south to Ponte Vedra also. Not so isolated, warmer winters, more to do and better choices for health care. We are not golfers either.
