Moving with family (2 kids, elementary school age). Which areas of North Jax will anyone recommend? Safe, low crime areas with good schools and not so far from shopping .
Can anyone comment on pecan park, oceanway, fort caroline area?
Where in North Jax will the new mall be?
Thanks for your input!

Fort Caroline is south of the river - not considered the Northside (it's on the Southside region of the city).

Fort Caroline is nice . I was actually driving down Monument Road today and admiring the area...very pretty. Nice big lots can be found here, well-treed, established.

If you look on a map, you'll see that the Fort Caroline area is nestled between Downtown, the river, and the Intracoastal and the ocean is 10-15 minutes away at the most - it's hard to get all of that access in other areas.

There's also some great history to Fort Caroline:

Thanks Riveree, Do you know of any new SFH communities in this area?
Any communities that we should avoid?
Thanks again!

There are tons of newer single family homes in the area...too many to list. The area went through a big development boom in recent years, so it's very easy to find a resale that is under 10 years old, often under 5 years old.

Brand new construction is limited, but still available. Wynnfield Lakes, Highland Glen, and Waterleaf are just a few where you can still build a home.

No communities to avoid that I can think of. What I would suggest is for you to look online at homes for sale in your price range in zips 32225, 32246 & 32224 - these zips will keep you close enough to the Northside but keep you where you'll be more central to shopping, restaurants, entertainment, etc. 32225 & 32246 will give you the shortest commute, 32224 is just a bit further out (south) for you, but still a good commute.

Also off New Berlin. Lots of new construction out there. I don't know if that's too far out for you.
