I have never left the country without my parents, I'm now an adult and need to do so, where does one start the process?

You need to stop at CVS or Walgreens to have your passport photo taken. Then go to the Post Office to fill out the passport forms. Give them your forms, photo and money for the passport. Wait one month and it should arrive in the mail. Good luck!

I'm a little puzzled about the OP asking about a passport application on this forum from London? Be that as it may if you are applying in London, UK you should be enquiring at one of the local embassies, which one would depend on which country you are travelling to.

It does seem a little unusual
But for any others that may have the same question let me tell you a really really easy and fast way

The post office has set times for passports and unless you get there early enough to make sure you will get one of the times you will have to come back.

Especially now with the summer travel season getting very close lots of folks may realize they need a passport

We went to the clerk of the court in Orange Park on 17 We were in and out in 20 mins for 2 passports and they even took the pictures.

I would also call in advance to see the time frame for getting it back. When we had ours done it was right before they changed the "rules" on when you need a passport so the process time was close to 11 weeks.

The last time I applied for a passport I did it all online. Don't remember the dot-gov website off the top of my head. Mailed my pixes and check and voila before I knew it the passport was in my mailbox. Now I got my passport with nowhere to go ... waiting for that stupid Cuba blockade to end.

The US State Department website has pretty detailed information on how to go about getting a US Passport for the first time. You will need a personal appearance.
How to Apply for the First Time (In Person)
Hope this helps.

Correction: I meant "renewed" not "applied". I believe a first time application has to be in person.

I went to the main post office, you get the application, they'll take the photo and it's all handled right there. I had mine back within a couple weeks
