It may be that San Antonio is kind of small too. I don't know. Many factors.

I know LinkedIn works. My dad gets contacted by recruiters frequently, but he's Executive level, I'm only 4 years out of college with that amount of experience.
I hear ya on that. I'm from a relatively big city, probably similar in size to SA, but most of my job alerts are for jobs in other states. I still keep an eye on them, though, since I'm interested in relocating closer to family.

I got my current position with a telecommunications systems integrator as a sales engineer via an unsolicited email through linkedin. Turned out to be a good move, I keep an updated profile however that's clear, written in 3rd person, and is essentially a CV.

Yep. And I'm not adverse to moving to a bigger city with more opportunities as I am so young, so I keep a look out too!

No jobs per se, but I've re-established contact with people through it who's contact info I'd lost (or never had to begin with in one case), so I can't say it's totally useless. You never do know when "nothing" will turn into "something"

I've received a few unsolicited emails for high level Senior Executive positions from recruiters. The positions were for mostly larger companies. I had just sold a company so they must have ways to search for that because I didn't get any emails until after I posted that I sold my company. I'm taking a sabbatical for a few months so won't consider anything until next year.

But it seems for some high level positions, some recruiters are utilizing it. I've never heard of anyone getting a job from it.

On my profile, I have over 450 connections with my clients/coworkers and almost 50 testimonials so that probably helped.

I did. Started out as a contractor and was offered a perm position by client in 4 months, way ahead of the 12 month contract period.

Hey Squirl,

Ha, ha. Well unfortunately the jobs weren't in the San Diego area. All of them were not in cities that I had any desire to live in. I'm moving to San Diego for lifestyle reasons but the job market is HORRIBLE there. I'm debating whether I want to take early retirement. I won't think about it until next year.

But you're right.. San Diego is an awesome city!

I am an IT contractor. When our projects end, it is a good way to keep in touch with people you like working with. I find out who their new manager is and use it as a way to get on their contract.
