OK...I'm curious about an application I put in yesterday. Submitted my resume yesterday evening. About an hour ago, I received an email directed to me (Dear ChocLot), saying thanks for my interest and that my resume was under review and someone would be in touch in 2-3 weeks if I fit their needs. There's also mention of my resume being kept on file for future opportunities.

Do you guys think this is a simple acknowledgment of my resume submission or is that a polite "no"?

It's an autogenerated form letter from their applicant tracking software. All it means is your information made it into their system/black hole. It means nothing. It is like the windows title screen.

^^^ just consider it to be a receipt for items received. Nothing more, nothing less.

You are way overthinking this one. Just an automated response.

Automated receipt of application. Be happy they give you even that these days.

I'm familiar with the automated response. What threw me off is that the email starts:

My First Name, then the message.

Is it typical for automated responses to be personalized? I've rec'd many in the past and they normally are rec'd within 1-5 minutes after application and are never personalized.

There could be any number of reasons for the delay--server problems, or maybe its programmed only to send once someone at the company has confirmed that the application is complete.Adding your name to it is just a matter of programming the response to include the field in which you input your name.

It's an automated response, or at best, a meaningless acknowledgement. I wouldn't call it a kiss-off yet but I wouldn't hold your breath either.

yes, it means nothing. It is just an automated message. At the best it is the HR person copy and pasting your name onto a form letter

I get lots of those. Sometimes I'll get one immediately after I've submitted an online application.

That is a email not to be taken seriously especially since it's automated.
