As a college student, I think it's several reasons:
1.) Not getting feedback on your resume and assuming what you have is decent
2.) Conflicting information from employers. I've had employers tell me they wanted to see an objective statement and others tell me they don't want to see it. Okay, so how the heck do I know if you want one or not?
3.) This ties in with the second point but, I use the career service at my school and the advice they give me is looked down upon by professors whose advice is looked down upon by employers despite the fact that these professors hired and fired people and looked through millions of resumes in their careers.
