So currently work for one of the major banks. Just had 8yr anniversary this month. Also Im in the process of trying to relocate to another state. I figured the best way to obtain this would be to transfer within the bank for the same position. So I applied and interviewed for 2 positions. I just got a rejection letter from our staffing department saying that my experience was not relateable for one of the positions. Im an Executive Assistant for petes sake!!!!I think im pretty sure that my skills that I currently have for my current job could easily adapt for the position....Sorry for the rant...but just feel like I wasnt even given a chance.
It sounds like you were given a chance.
But, keep going. The fact that you work for a major interstate bank is in your favor - better than a local bank. If you aren't asking for relocation reimbursement, I would think it's only a matter of time before something opens up for you. I would think it would be better for the bank to hire you than to hire someone off the street. It would almost be like a transfer.
In my job search, mostly out of state positions, I've learned to throw all logic out the window. When I thought too much about it, it made me feel like going out and running across the freeway. But I cannot afford to get depressed after every rejection. I still give every opportunity my best and beyond that, it may as well be a lottery. You would think being an internal candidate would work in your favor, but does it ever make any sense? Maybe somebody's uncle or nephew needed a job or maybe they still prefer to hire local even vs transferring? Keep trying and it could still work in your favor in the future. Patience is a necessity. Being that I am 10+ months into my search, I know it all too well.
Which is why I asked if your company mandated this. The company I work for does - so even when I find an OOS candidate that would be a transfer, my budget gets hit for relocation expenses (tiered by position I'm hiring for).
You may want to reach out to your HR team and find out if there is such a policy in place.
Getting another gig isn't easy, even internally. Be prepared for more rejections than offers and don't be surprised when they come. Dissapointment is OK but don't let it irk you too long and don't spend too much time trying to read into why (especially at the very early stage of an application, there is little to learn from at that stage). Time for you to move on and keep at it.
thanks for the all the well wishes....Yes, its very tough out there...It's basically the "luck of the draw"
