It depends on your own background and how far back does the background check cover. In my firm, it's 7-10 business days (roughly 2 weeks) for a 10-year background check that covers employement, education, and criminal history verification.
On average a few weeks, sometimes up to a month, the higher up you are (like state, federal, etc) the longer it can take.
It took my friend a YEAR to get a background done. Longest it took me was a month.
