You pretty much have to have a great first impression with the recruiters at the job fair. I was never good with this because some companies will be serious while others are there just for the sake of promoting their company. A lot are there just to collect resumes.

I got a few call backs and interviews from job fairs but it was mostly from my resume.

I agree. My industry holds an annual job fair but candidates still have to go through the formalized, tedious, grueling hiring process regardless so the job fair is a total waste of time. My friend convinced me to go this year and we left after 1/2 because there were only 10 employers and three were out of state! Very few of them were even hiring for our profession so it was a waste of time and parking fees.
