I'm very schocked and surprised by lack of knowledge of some random Israeli Jews of who they think is the messiah.

There are many very secular Jews in Israel, as well as agnostic & atheists who are Jewish (due to being born from a Jewish mother) but don't know anything about their religion. However, that doesn't mean that Israelis are stupid.

Why would you be shocked? Many Americans see the USA as a Christian country but not all Americans are religious. There are many who are secular yet still celebrate Christian holidays.

Israel is a Jewish state but there are secular and religious Jews. Jews are not only part of a religion we are also part of a people.

I understand your point, but it's not the same with the U.S. and Israel.

USA has a secular government with seperation of church and state, HOWEVER the culture is Christian. People from all over the world and every faith live in America, but it happens to be that 80% of the people are Christians.

The reason why many Americans, especially Christians, sees America as a Christian nation is because all holidays are Christian ones', all presidents were Christians (except few Deism), and the majority are Christians. However since few decades ago, many call it "Judeo-Christian'' nation rather than sole 'Christian' nation.

Israel is not the same. It's still a Jewish state with not completely a very 'secular' government. Star of David is in Israeli flag, and all holidays are Jewish etc. America has no 'Cross' on the flag.

It is peculiar to me that they have the religious symbol on their flag and no one questions that (or at least I've rarely heard it questioned). Isn't the Star of David also known as Salomon's Seal? Or is it spelled Soloman?
I have never been to Israel, but I'm always surprised to hear how "secular" they are -- surely they are at least as religious as Americans. There are a few Christians and Muslims there as well.

Sure it is.....

There are many secular Christians who celebrate the Christian holidays and never set foot in a church.

Just as there are many secular Jews who never set foot in a synagogue.

There are many Christians and Jews in both groups who do not know about their religion.

Jews are not just part of a religion we are part of a people.

You are Jewish whether religious or secular.

We all understand the Star of David whether we are secular or religious.

Israel was founded primarily by secular Zionists, who can best be described as godless socialistic utopian idealists. I don't mean that description as an insult but rather just to be a descriptive as possible.

Israel, as a whole, today remains considerably more secular than even the US, although the minority religious in Israel do weild a significant amount of influence over their secular brothers and sisters in the majority. Jerusalem is the exception, as it tends to be a city with a strong religious influence in all facets of life. But go to Natanya or Tel Aviv, and you would barely hear mention of the Torah or its mitzvahs.

It's a very complex dynamic and complex culture in Israel. Jews, go figure...

Where was *that* mentioned ???

I am sure, that many who were also interviewed had more precise/correct answers ???
This blurb, is akin to the street interviews Jay Lenno has for his nightly parodies ...
Does *THAT* mean Americans are stupid ????

Ask American Catholics, what the name is of the last three Popes, I bet you many would not know ...
Does that mean American Catholics are stupid ???

You misunderstood my point. I meant that Israelis are NOT stupid for not knowing about their religion.
