I have a family of 4 kids and looking into blue springs/lees summit area. What is an average cost per month some of you pay for electric/gas/car insurance/cable or fios if its available? Just trying to figure out how much better the cost of living is coming from NYC and retiring with a city pension.

Thanks

The biggest difference in cost of the items you listed will probably be auto insurance. Insurance in NYC is ridiculous. I never owned a car when living there, but the rates I saw advertised seemed obscene. You'll also be paying significantly less for gasoline.

The cost for cable/internet/etc seems to be relatively the same.

Utility rates are lower here as well - but you'll probably have a bigger place so you may not save any money.

Obviously your cost will be different because you will have a bigger house...but I lived in a Lees Summit house that was about 1200 sq ft with 3 people and we paid roughly 100-180 for electric per month, 50-120 per month for gas depending on what time of the year it was, about 35-45 per month for water, 25 per month for trash service with recycling, 60 per month for home phone and internet and we had satellite TV that was about 70 per month. Car insurance we pay about 120 per month for full coverage with a 250 deductible on a 2008 (suv) and 2005(truck).

Hope this helps
