My boyfriend and I will be driving to Kansas City today from Council Bluffs, IA. Here in Council Bluffs we have some lookout points where we can see the beautiful Omaha, NE skyline. Is there something like this in Kansas City that I could take him to?

If you are just new to the city, the best view is from the deck of the WWI Monument (Liberty Memorial). It's overdone and taken from granted by the locals, but it's still the best place to go view the city, especially for the first time and it's safe because it's lit up and there is security and cameras around. The skyline just looks great when ancored by Union Station, the Performing Arts Center, Sprint Center etc in foreground and Crown Center to the right. Go to the top of the memorial for amazing views of not only downtown and crown center, but midtown and the plaza too.

Other places include:

Waterworks Park at about 34th and N Oak Trafficway north of the river. Nice view, but a bit far, city looks big from north and lots of lights. The Loop Road around Downtown Airport used to be the best view from north, but you the road around the north side of the airport is off limits now. Just the drive south via 169 is pretty neat though.

Kaw Point in KCK where the MO and KS rivers meet. Dark at night, but should be safe, city looks very small from Kansas because you can only see a part of the skyline, but still neat view with rivers in foreground. Also some pretty neat views from Strawberry Hill in KCK just south of Downtown KCK along the bluffs.

Areas east of Hospital Hill like around 22nd and US-71. Views of the city are incredible and impressive. Somewhat sketchy at night, but not terrible, just be careful. I have never had a problem.

The Scout Statue in Penn Valley Park. Also nice views with the Performing Arts Center in foreground. Same as Hospital Hill, be careful at night, very secluded and dark.

Union Hill area at about 29th and Grand. Incredible views of the skyline as you drive north on Main Street near Union Hill.

Summit Overpass (Summit St where it crosses I-670 near the FBI building). Close up view of the Bartle Hall Pylons and several of Downtown's towers, neat view at night.

Berkley Park (riverfront, skyline can get lost in the hillside, but there are some spots where it pops out and looks great).

There are many others, but those are the closest to the city.
