Hi everyone! I'm originally from Warrensburg, MO but have recently got a job in Lee's Summit. I'm looking to move up to the area and really like the apartment prices in Raytown versus Lee's Summit. I don't make a lot of money so for the price of a one-bedroom apartment in Lee's Summit, I can get a two-bedroom apartment in Raytown. I've found one that I like at Coach Lamp Corner apartments off 350 and Raytown Rd. and was wondering if anyone has lived there before or heard anything about that complex. Also, considering pretty much every town has "bad parts" in it, where would you say that the "bad parts" of Raytown are? Or is Raytown considered a "bad place" to live overall?

Here in the last week or so there have been bomb threats at several Wal-Marts in the metro, Raytown included. Should I be concerned about this and let it color my perception of Raytown?

And now for a little background about myself: I'm a single white female, no kids, one cat, and would be living by myself and getting off work and coming home around 1:30am. Keeping this in mind, is Raytown a decent place or should I stay away and settle in Lee's Summit?

TIA! Any information is certainly welcome!

If I were you, I would look at Lee's Summit-Raytown isn't that bad-but it is older, more blue collar and just not that desireable a place to live-plus the shopping and services aren't really there and most Raytown people drive to Lee's Summit for their services. Raytown is tired and worn anymore-including the apartments.

Don't worry about the Wal-Mart bomb threats. That's just some idiot, or a disgruntled ex-worker. The FBI told us "we've had enough of this nonsense," so they're frustrated too.

I live in Lee's Summit. I own a home, but also have scoped out apartments, out of curiosity and to help out friends looking for new apts., and I don't know that I'd like to be a renter in LS, at least not a renter in apartment complexes. The rents seem fairly high, even in the least nice complexes. It's possible that rental houses may be a better deal, I'm not sure.

I think Raytown gets a bad rap that's not necessarily deserved, because portions of it are adjacent to sketchy portions of East KC. I don't have a problem in the world with Raytown. I work with quite a few people who are in their late twenties, early thirties, and grew up in Raytown in the 90s-00s, and they all liked growing up there. It's pretty working class, and isn't affluent suburbia these days, but that's not necessarily a terrible thing. Just depends on what you want. If I were planning on spending a significant amount of time in KC itself, I'd rather be closer via Raytown than further out via Lee's Summit.

How about something around Independence Center or further south off I-470? Or even Blue Springs? Driving to LS would not be bad.

If good people are continually steered away from places like Raytown, won't those places actually become bad even though they're not necessarily already so?

I have a friend who lives in Raytown (owns her home) and there is a lot of crime. She keeps her doors locked all the time, even in broad daylight, and is planning to get a gun to have in case anyone breaks in. I personally would not want to live like that, which is why I live in a very low crime area.

I would recommend ls or independence mall area over raytown if your budget allows.
Raytown isn't really super dangerous but like other people have said it, shopping and entertainment is not as nice, raytown can get boring really quick imo.
