Warning 10 days ago my wife/s purse with all her credit cards and sunglasses was stolen from our vehicle which was parked in the parking lot of 24 hr fitness in lee/s summit. When I spoke with the officer he said that this is happening all over the KC metro at gyms , malls , etc. Thieves smash your window , and then run up credit card bills as fast as they can . We collected the data from the banks , and hopefully these people will be caught. My second beef is with jackson county, I don./t know what they smoke or drink in the morning but my assessment on my home has gone from 2800 in 2007 to $3900 , in a down economy , with my house value going way down to it/s original price of 2ooK which we paid in june of 2002. Which we would be lucky to get in this economy. It is not enough for jackson county to collect property taxes , high sales taxes,, and personal property taxes,I feel we are being held captive by out of control petty bureaucrats who raise our taxes at will.

It is foolish to leave your purse inside your car no matter where you park it. It is even foolish to drive to a gym and then lock your purse in your trunk in the parking lot. People have been known to sit and watch for women doing exactly that and then break into the trunk. Better to put your purse in the trunk before you get to the gym.

I had my purse stolen from my house at approx. 2:00 a.m. and by the time I discovered it at 6:30 a.m. they had already run up my 2 credit cards over $1,000. Buying $500 in electronics at WalMart at 3:00 a.m. Uh, hello??? I hope they enjoyed the $25.00 in steaks from Price Chopper and the carton of cigarettes.

I am not sure what is up with the tax increases, wait, I know what is up but it really sucks, it is a way for Jackson County to up taxes without a vote. There is no way that everybody's property in the county has risen by 30 %, even if you figure it over the last five years let alone the last ONE year. This is bogus and everyone should flood Jackson County with appeals of their valuations. This is ridiculous.

Our assessment went up $115,000 since last year. We're appealing it.

I politely suggest that everyone in jackson county appeal their tax increase. No taxation without a public vote or representation??

While I agree that everyone should appeal it based on the fact that the assessment increases far exceed value increases across the board, Missouri Revised Statutes Ch. 137 gives counties the authority to adjust assessments. To say that you're appealing because of no public vote or representation is silly, since property values actually DO increase from time to time. The rate isn't necessarily changing; it's the valuation that the rate is multiplied by.

Fair enough , abt the assessment. I/m not from Mo , and no one has explained , how the taxes are levied. So thank you for the explanation. What I did n/t understand is how can the counties raise one/s property taxes, when the market value has gone down so much ?? Update , after our appeal within 1 week jackson county lowered our assessment from 230 k to 200k and our taxes dropped $500. So if you feel that your taxes are way up appeal ?
