Have been at UMKC for quite a few years.

There are quite some good options in the $ 600-$700 range at 46th and broadway which is almost on Plaza

I see dogs all the while in the park adjoining the large fountain at 47 th and broadway.

Quite safe area, in my opinion

Since you're from a big Southern university odds are very good you'll have a decent-sized, active alumni group. Alums are easy to approach at functions and get to know, so much in common. Also if your school is a football cultured one, you're just in time for Game Watch Parties which will likely be well attended, as not all nonconference games will be televised locally, but by region or PPV. Those are the parties I attend when I can't watch from the comfort of home.

Good luck to you, KC is a great place.

Don't be discouraged. You can live about anywhere for one year as long as it is clean and safe. You move to Florida; live by the beach at least that first year. You move to KC and are young, get as close to the fun as possible; the Plaza, West Plaza, Crossroads. Check craigslist or just google those keywords. Consider as far south at 52nd, around the Nelson Art Museum, or even the RiverMarket area. Once you have been here awhile, you will have it figured out.

$720/mo. is absolutely the lowest that I know of actually on the Plaza.

1.) Where should I look at for places to rent? From what I've read so far, The Plaza area is supposed to be the nicest, but my price range is about $600/month. And I'm getting a (rescued and trained) GSP so it would have to be pet friendly with a dog park at least a short drive away, and a safe place to walk during sunset hours. I know y'all aren't my personal real estate/leasing agents but if you know anyone who specializes in helping people find apartments, let me know!

2.) Dog parks, are there any especially good ones?

3.) I'm 22. And my closest friend who's not in my college town (which is like, 12+ hours away I think??), lives in Oklahoma City lol. What do post grads do to meet people in KC? I literally don't know anyone there and I'm definitely a people person - always hanging out with friends and entertaining at my townhouse.

4.) What kind of culture does KC fall into? I'm from the deep South, and I know many parts of Missouri are rural, or "country", and that some people in MO associate themselves with the Southern identity, would you say that's true for KC as well?

Anyway, I may have more questions, haha. Thank you for any insight at all! I'm totally frenzied right now lol
Hello,

If you would consider getting a room mate, I have a great 2 bedroom rental unit in the West Plaza which is currently available. The lay out is also ideal for room mates. It is in a small group not between the Plaza and Westport at 45th st and has a fireplace, deck, parking, all appliances, free internet (google fibre) and pool. Close to everything, great safe location and great neighbours. If you are interested let me know and I can organise a showing for you.

The advice other's have given you is all correct. The plaza is expensive. Also be careful of large old blocks of units with one single owner, generally managed by less than desirable agents. Look forward to hearing from you!
