I am 25 and may be relocating to the KC area. I'm looking for nice areas around KC.
My boyfriend and I may be relocating to the KC area and I'm looking for suggestions of nice areas to live outside of the city itself (on the Missouri side). The most important thing is that the area be safe, but we're both in our mid/late 20s, so we would want to live somewhere that has plenty to do.
Any suggestions?

There are plenty of nice suburbs on the Missouri side, but I wonder why you wouldn't want to live in the city since you are younger and don't know a lot of people. There are some really nice areas in the city to live.
What's your budget going to be? Are you looking to buy or rent? A condo or a single family home? Let us know and we can offer up some advice.

Also, note that Kansas City has expanded over the years and includes some very suburban areas with modern housing developments. This is especially true north of the river.

Blue Springs, Liberty, and east side of Independence are good ideas to start looking. All of those suburbs are not too far away from Downtown and the Plaza.

Parkville and Lee's Summit both have fun downtown areas, and are quite safe. North Kansas City may be another option; it's a little closer to the city, crime is a tiny bit higher but it is still safe IMO.

What exactly do you mean by outside? Outside suburban or a small town that's within reasonable driving distance. I'll assume the latter and point you to Platte City and Smithville. Very nice smaller cities (under 10,000) but a stone's throw away from the city and the burbs. About a ten minute drive.

Platte City and Smithville are also quite a bit further away from the southside of the metro area. However, they are convenient to KCI airport, Downtown, and the Plaza.

Do you have an idea concerning what area of the KC metro you will be working at? That would give me some help in offering what particular areas to recommend. Also, what is your price range?

Depends on where you are talking about. If you're talking about driving distance to someplace like Blue Springs or Lee's Summit then yes. However, the northland has all the same amenities minus the Royals and Chiefs. All those amenities are accessible within a few minutes drive of either community.
If you're talkin' downtown or midtown/plaza area, I'd beg to differ. They're pretty close to equidistant but you can still get there much faster from those two areas based on the fact that traffic is much lighter. Smithville is only a 5 minute drive or so from Barry Road and it's a straight shot down 169 into the heart of downtown.

Smithville and Platte City are both relatively rural, may become suburban sooner rather than later but still have a ways to go, IMO. They are both really nice towns, but when the OP said she was looking for a place with "plenty to do," they're not the sort of towns I assumed she was looking for.
