I have been looking in the HR, learning, training and project management fields and it seems odd but I haven’t seen a lot of companies mentioning their benefits. Usually at the end of a job description they will list the reasons that people might like to work for the company. One benefit that is important to me is work life balance-specially working from home a couple days a week and/or flexible hours. Maybe going in earlier than 8 and leaving earlier than 5.
Any companies that are known to be family friendly and promote work life balance in KC. Specifically telecommuting? There are many jobs that I could apply for in Kansas and live in Liberty if I could have that option even 2 days a week. Otherwise, I probably shouldn’t apply that far away.

What companies offer telecommute in KC?

Also Cerner is huge out there. Anyone know how telecommute friendly they are.

Thx!
Suzie

Cerner used to have a reputation for expecting their employees to routinely work 50-60 hours a week. I don’t know if that’s still true.

Cerner would not be the company to work for if work-life balance is a priority, as I understand it. But this is not firsthand information. Perhaps check glassdoor, etc. for testimonials of employees, but my understanding is that there are highly demanding expectations on one's time.

If you work for Cerner, they own you. They even try to encourage their employees to live in the same apartment complex near work, at least at the NKC location.

Oh goodness. Thank you for the heads up! 40 hours a week is plenty for me. Yes some of the huge companies aren’t what they are cracked up to be. I work for a major airline in Atlanta and they have a Walmart, gym, cafeteria, bank and doctor on site. It’s not for convenience. It’s so you essentially don’t have the leave work so they can suck the life blood out of you!! LOL

Any recommendations on good companies that promote work balance or work from home on occasion?

Thanks to everyone. Is telecommuting common in KC at most companies at least a couple of days a week? Any company names that are family friendly. Flex hours or some telecommute would be very helpful!
