Lawmakers push for conclusion of negotiations on Cerner-Wizards project - Kansas City Star (http://www.kansascity.com/637/story/1507325.html - broken link)

Looks like this may be a close call. I still have a feeling Kansas will get it because it's going to be hard for the MO side to compete, but regardless... we should try.

Wow, I thought this was pretty much a done deal. It would be such a lifesaver to South Kansas City if they could get this development. I think it would not only help heal the depression of the area, but also the people. I'm sure it would raise moral so much.

The only problem is, WyCo has the state of Kansas backing them up. KCMO is on its own. Jeff City is too concerned with St. Louis to care much about KCMO (also the KCMO leaders aren't at all organized to effectively lobby in Jeff City)

The chances of the Wizards stadium being built at the Bannister mall site is very slim. One of the Wizards owners said the other day that they could be moving dirt in Wyandotte by the end of the month.

Something to note is that OnGoal and Lane 4 still plan to continue with the Bannister Mall area revitalization. It will just be without the Wizards stadium as the anchor. It will also probably not start for a year or two due to the recession and retailers not wanting to commit to leases.

Actually, the initial TIF process for the Bannister Mall site had to go through Jeff City. They approved everything but you are correct in that this is not exactly a priority for them.

It is even more unlikely now. The state of Kansas made a great offer today that will probably close the deal.

Lame. Though I figured Kansas would still get it...

Next city I move too is definitely going to be one that doesn't share a metro area with another state...

Why? It is an imaginary line. I cross it nearly every single day and it isnt a big deal.

I'm there with you. It is an imaginary line, but in Kansas City seems to make so much difference. Difference in people and in a way it is a line that segragates.
