Do you need to be close to a certain place (Wichita, Kansas City, Topeka?), or does it make no difference where in the state you are?

I have heard good things about a town called Sabetha, KS, it's pretty small though. Maybe something like Hutchinson, Newton or Mcpherson would serve you better? They are a bit bigger.

Garnett is a very good town. Good schools and churches.

Salina is a larger small town but quite nice and coveinient to I-70 and I-135. A bit north of there you have the Soloman River Valley which has some smaller nice towns like Beloit.

Ottawa isn't bad. It has a population of about of about 12,500 and is very safe. I would not recommend it for young singles, but it is nice for families with children who want a safe, relatively crime free environment. The cost of living is quite reasonable as well. There are a few places to waitress...Applebees is the nicest, but I don't think they offer health insurance, which might be a drawback for you.

Ottawa is about 25 miles from Lawrence - a terrific town with lots of shopping, entertainment, and dining opportunities, and home of Kansas University.

Hesston is a nice town...it is about 35 miles North of Wichita... Newton is 7 miles away (between Hesston and Wichita)

Hesston has about 3500 people, there is a pizza hut, subway, sonic, Aggies Bar and grill, D'angelos Pizza, Skoops (burger joint) 2 gas stations and a small grocery store...lots of banks and a golf course...
We have a few cool things throughout the year like homecoming (or as they call it coming home) weekend is a big deal...I know there is more but I am drawing a blank.

The schools in my opinion are the best...very family oriented...Churches are numerous.
Sporting events is a big deal... we finally got a band teacher that is teaching marching a bit (which is cool to me because I was a band geek)

Newton is 7 miles away, there is a Walmart, Alco, dollar stores, various fast food, applebees, Montana mikes, charlies truck stop...There is also an outlet mall with 8 movie theaters...

Small town with another larger town nearby...I love it!
