I'm going to be staying in Olathe this weekend (no rooms in Lawrence). Weather reports are looking worse and worse, and I need to drive into Lawrence and back to Olathe at least twice. Will weather be an obstacle on K-10? Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions for driving.

It could be an obstacle. A mixture of sleet, freezing rain, and snow are all possible at times this weekend. Just make sure to use a lot of caution on the roads and take it slow. K-10 is usually maintained well in the winter, but freezing rain can make for very hazardous conditions.

Depends on where you are from and what you are used to. Kansas natives are not even bothered by driving in snow and ice. If you are from the south on the other hand, you might not enjoy it as much.

And...as you've probably noticed -- the weather was beautiful! I didn't even see snow in this weekend's forecast, though they're calling for some on Monday night into Tuesday. The ground still seems pretty warm and IMO, the highways should be clear and smooth sailing.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is supposed to be bad, but I think this weekend should be fine. Local extended forecast shows 38 on Friday and in the 40s on Saturday. You should be fine!

Yes, you are completely right. Plains winters are quite mild compared to the Midwest. I really enjoy the winter, so I didn't care for the relative lack of winter that the Plains often provided
