My wife and I were married at the Coco Palms resort which I know is out of commission nowadays.

I also remember from our honeymoon there in 1990 that there was a huge resort hotel with a golf course with islands in the lakes with exotic animals on on them; a horse-drawn carriage for newlyweds and magnificent lobby. It There was also a restaurant and lighthouse right on the cliffside that was a short walk from the lobby. It was all quite over-the-top in a late 1980s kind of way and most of the guests were rich foreigners.

I am curious what is there now - I think it is probably the Kuaui Marriott but I am not sure.

Any locals remember this place and can help me locate what is there now ? Thanks !

I think the hotel you're asking about is the Kaua'i Surf hotel:

Kalapaki Bay

Demolition and other permits have supposedly been granted for the re-do of the Coco Palms (although it will be called something else that I can't remember), and work was supposed to start at the end of July, but so far nothing has happened. I have a feeling it's going to be a hot mess down there when demolition does start.

The Kauai Marriott is what it there now. It opened as the Kauai Surf, but the era you are talking about is after Chris Hemmeter bought it, spent $350 million on it and it became the Westin Kauai, only to see it destroyed by Hurricane Iniki.

Westin Kauai
