Default Somerset Verse Bowling Green

Hi! I am trying to find a town with under 50,000 people, but still get a mall and fun things for my daughter to do. I think the rent in somerset and bowling green is something i can afford, but I know nothing about either town. If anyone is from either town ,can you fill me in on good schools and safe neighborhoods? If anyone is familiar with both towns could you compare them for me? I moved to Ohio after Katrina and I am trying to get closer to home, we moved because of the high prices of rent on the coast, and at least Ky is closer than Ohio! Thanks!!

Well, they're both very different.

Somerset is about 12,000 people - give or take. It has a mall, but it's not impressive. The best store in the mall is Bath and Body Works - but it also has a Penny's, BookLand, Belk, Radio Shack, Claire's and some other small stores. Bowling Green's mall is much bigger with a lot better selection. Somerset is mainly a dry town - with Burnside being "moist". Your selection of restaurants isn't as great as it is in Bowling Green. Most of the restaurants are locally owned - aside from Ruby Tuesday, Cracker Barrel, Golden Corrall and some other places. Bowling Green has all major chain restaurants.

The crime rate in Somerset is MUCH lower than it is in Bowling Green. Bowling Green is a college town - whereas Somerset is more of a family-oriented town. I don't know much about children activities in Bowling Green, but Somerset has a lot of activities going on at the YMCA and SomerSport Park. Depending on the age of your kid, you can take advantage of that.

One great things about Somerset is Lake Cumberland. It's a huge tourist attraction - even with the new dam construction and the lowering of the lake. People are still flocking to the lake.

It really just depends on your needs and what you are looking for. I hope I helped
