So im making a really big choice in my life, college, moving. The two go hand in hand. My problem is the college I love the most (Louisville) has the most expensive rent, and my girlfriend and I cant afford that while in college. We both loved WKU, but when visiting, bowling green almost looked a little ran down, to the point it scared us out (especally being 4 hours away from home). We both agree we want nothing to do with EKU or Morehead for we are from Richmond and there just is lack of oppertunities to work here as well as there. As for NKU, not for us. We just recently got the idea to look at Frankfort and G-town to rent and go to UK, as of now we both like the idea, but the problem is, we are not used to those areas and its hard to find rent on the internet (most sights just show lexington when you type that in. We would love a price range for rent around 500-600 dollers, open to more then that if they have things included in rent. Does anyone have any idea where a town like this near a college might be? This is stressful and anything will help. It means a lot for you for taking the time to read and I hope you guys and gals can help......
Pay the rent. Commuting costs will outweigh the rent costs. Don't worry about run-down appearance of any college community. If you mean crime, check it out, but don't worry about the area otherwise.
We lived in an apartment on campus (literally a 4 minute walk) that was only $650/2 BR. We also lived in the 1BR for a year and I think that was $475/month.
Craigslist is a great way to find affordable housing, as well as The KY Kernel (UK's paper) website classifieds.
As for living on campus in an apt, I havn't saw anything on that. However, someone has told me before that you couldn't live with the same sex on campus.
You couldn't live with the same sex on campus? or the opposite sex? That's probably true for dorms and Greg Pape apartments, but off campus there are a TON of apartments and they do not care who lives there as long as they pay the rent!
What area around WKU did you look in that you were concerned about? If you mean the old apartment houses along Kentucky, College and Adams Street I can see why, but that is not where most students live now. Did you check any of the newer college communities for housing like College Suites, Campus Pointe, etc?
