Would love some help narrowing down options of where to live and work in Kentucky. I have been looking closely at both the Louisville or Lexington areas to live. I really like what both areas have to offer and need some help narrowing things down
JOB
Nurse with over 10+ years. Any feedback on best hospitals to work for, pay, etc would be great!
HOUSING
My family and I are looking for a house on 10+ acres to start a small farm as well. Looking at property prices not over $200,000.
SCHOOLS
Not an issue because we homeschool.
I would love to see you consider NW Henry County (I-71 MP 28) There are several medical opportunities in the area including Carrollton, LaGrange (best), Brownsboro--Middletown along I-265.
If at all possible, I understand that the Baptist system is the best of the best. Don't know, I'm only a Realtor.
You are unlikely to find ten acres with a decent house in Fayette County for only $200,000. A house, yes - but not with land. Fayette County zoning restricts rural land with new houses to a minimum of 40 acres, in order to protect the imperiled Bluegrass landscape.
You can find smaller tracts which have been grandfathered in - but land prices are quite high in the Inner Bluegrass which surrounds Lexington. The more rugged and less fertile Land in the Outer Bluegrass (and in The Knobs and along the Kentucky River) is less costly, but makes for a longer commute.
How large a house do you want to purchase? Older houses may work better for your budget and your family, especially if you are "handy" and can paint and do minor fix-ups yourself.
We aren't looking for new home construction. An older home would not be an issue. My husband and I are both pretty handy. As far as a commute goes, here in CNY, a typical commute for the type of housing we are looking for would be over 30 minutes. Am willing to commute for a place in the country.
Thanks so far for the info. It is nice to hear that the conservation of the landscape is important. Most of our nice countryside here has been replaced by sprawling subdivisions. The farmers have not been able to keep up with the taxes so they sell to builders like Ryan homes.
Thanks again!
