A lot of UT basketball players do where orange vests while picking up trash along the highways on Sundays

Or no fan of either ... there are dozens of colleges closer to me than either UofL or UK. They are on the far side of the earth from here.

I would like to interupt the sports talk for a minute. I have family in both Kentucky and Tennessee. To my mind you are really talking about 4 states. East Tennessee, West Tennessee, Eastern Kentucky, and Western Kentucky. The differences in east and west in both states is huge. You could not pay me to live in Memphis, or anywhere in the flat lands. But East Tennessee? It's beautiful. There are some counties that are pretty remote, and you really need to be family connected to be there. Other places would be more friendly to outsiders. Kentucky is similar. So the question becomes not so much Kentucky versus Tennessee but mountains versus flatlands, towns and cities versus rural living. You can ask me more specific questions if you'd like.

Well I didn't read much of the replies so, I apologize (time constraints) but I'll give you my opinion on what I think you are asking...Tennessee has no income tax, Kentucky has lower sales tax if you live on the border but on the Tennessee side you can come to Kentucky for purchases ** (particularly if you live on I-65 you can come to Bowling Green Exit 22 on I-65)

In regard to which is better, well that is an argument that I wouldn't want to get into as even the most factual information in such a controversy is presented with blissful ignorance and extreme bias. If you wear orange you are still allowed in KY and if you wear blue you can still wander around TN, even Knoxville. Just swear your allegiance to the SEC or if you cannot comply it is requested you move to either Louisville or Memphis.

** Disclaimer: ALTHOUGH I personally think legislation(or a statute or something, if there is no requirement there probably should be) requires you are still required to pay the sales tax even if you make the purchase out of state...I believe KY requires you pay sales tax on interstate or international purchases if the sales tax you paid did not exceed the 6% required by Ky but this is nothing that I have particularly paid attention to as my out-of-state purchases are minimal.

Honestly every larger city in Tennesse is extremly dangerous. I lived there for a short and came back home due to all the violence.

Knoxville is nice, clean, and safe. Every other city in TN I've been too (Memphis, Chatt., Nashville) are cesspools filled with criminals and drunks

All 3 of KY's true Urban Centers are very clean and safe.

Its funny I was going to make a post on Tennessee Vs. Kentucky also. I'm from Wisconsin and everything is EXPENSIVE up here. So when I heard that Kentucky is safer the Tennessee. I was a little shocked. I think those crime rates may be true but thats more of Nashville and Memphis. If you look at the Tri-Cities area of Tennessee it has far less crime and its got the beautiful Mountains.

BTW, can anyone tell me. Is there nice MTN. Ranges in Eastern Kentucky like the ones in Eastern Tennessee. I'm looking at Kentucky and Tennessee for relocation and just want something with Mountains.

Thanks, Josh
