Any help you could give that would be great! We are selling our farm in VT and heading down to KY. We have been looking for 4 years now and are finally making the jump. We have been looking around KY and TN seeing what would work for us. We really want to find a safe, family oriented, farming community near homeschool opportunities. We would like no restrictions on land and would like an area that is welcoming and neighbors help each other. We need to be near a good hospital. With having small kids that love to climb everything! LoL Also we plan on having more children. My boyfriend is a licensed electrician so he will need to find work not too far away.
Thank you !!!
Which part of Kentucky are you wishing to relocate to?
(Prices/taxes can vary considerably between counties and regions.)

Do you have a specific area or city you would like to be near? (Kentucky has a few metro areas, surrounded by smaller towns/rural areas.)
Your husband probably won't have a lot of trouble finding work as an electrician.
Tennessee has no income tax, which is a big plus especially if you have a higher income....but they do have a higher sales tax, and tax food and medicine...which Kentucky doesn't.
Kentucky is a very friendly state to home schooling. I have known more than a few people who have home schooled their children. Kentucky is a bit more home schooling friendly than Tennessee, but I am
sure there are quite a few home-schooled there as well.
London sounds like a good place to start. It's south of Lexington about 80 miles on I-75. It has everything you are looking for. It's one of the fastest growing small towns in the State.
I'd probably look near Elizabethtown, Bardstown, Danville, Cynthiana, Sheblyville, Taylorsville and Campbellsville. If they are too expensive or crowded for you, look further out.

Thank you! We are thinking maybe Grayson county or more north in between Louisville and Lexington. Is there a specific place you would suggest looking? We are not able to purchase the million dollar farms near Lexington that we have seen! But would like to spend not more then around 500k.
Don't forget the western part of the state. Owensboro, Henderson, Madisonville, Hopkinsville, Princeton, Paducah, good farmland all the way to the Mississippi River.

I was told to stay away from the west because there are no jobs and the drug problem is really bad. Is that true or not true? Thank you for your help!

This is correct. I've worked in Agriculture finance for the last few years and depending on what you are wanting to produce, there are good options in Kentucky for it. The cities and surrounding areas listed above are the most prime row crop ground in the state, and land is cheaper out that way than in between Louisville and Lexington. Hopkinsville and west offers a lot of great amenities as well with the Land Between the Lakes park, and the town of Cadiz which has a neat downtown too.
Most of Shelby County (Shelbyville as the county seat) is run by one guy who sells the majority of his crop to the local bourbon distilleries - there are producers that do well there besides him, but they're legacy land owners so there aren't going to be a ton of land sales that most of those guys aren't going to scoop up for themselves.
If you're thinking of growing hay, then the very middle of the state (the triangle between Hodgenville, Danville and Campbellsville) is the best place for that, and ground is even cheaper than Western KY I believe.
Hopefully one of those western or central KY locales works well for you and best wishes in your search.
