Default Other than it's schools what makes Oldham Cty so desirable?

There seems to be some nice neighborhoods such as Douglas Hills, Plainview and Middletown in Jefferson Cty. Other than the schools how is Oldham more desireable than these neighborhoods?

Oldham County is more rural - more "small towns" and properties with bigger lots. Also, the schools are rated well overall (some outstanding) and the county has a more upscale reputation than some of the other counties surrouding Louisville.

It is a nice choice if you want a more rural area that isn't too far from the amenities of Louisville - it doesn't feel like you're "out in the sticks".

Jefferson County also has some very nice neighborhoods and great schools. For the most part, though, Jefferson County is more developed so your choices are more traditional suburbs or city atmosphere. Shelbyville Rd/US 60, for example, is a main route for both Middletown and Douglass Hills, and it changes from rural highway at the county line, to suburban shopping and restaurants (two malls, several large shopping centers, etc), and then into older, historic areas as it approaches downtown.

Either would make a good choice - Oldham County if you prefer the rural, small-town environments and don't mind the drive, and Jefferson for a more traditional suburban environment, with closer proximity to shopping, schools, restaurants, etc. By the way, you can also find some nice larger lots and more of a country setting within Jefferson county, just a little more rare and more $$.

Its really all person preference and he really summed it up well. The upside to Oldham is its smaller and more exurban and is surrounded by more land. The down side is there isn't any major malls in Oldham yet...although there will be in a few years. That said, the Summit mall in NE Louisville is only 10-15 minutes from almost anywhere in Oldham via I-71.

As an outsider that delivers to Louisville, i sure hope some kind of viable mass transit system is being considered for oldham Co. The inbound I-71 commute in the morning can be AWFUL...
