See, originally we were looking to move to KY but the homes seem like you get more for your money in IN. I would love to work in Louisville since I see more jobs there. Does anyone have info in this area of Southern Indiana...I have been looking at Scott, Floyd and Clark County? I have looked online at houses in Scottsburg, Jeffersonville, Palmyra, Charlestown, Memphis, Clarksville, Corydon and Sellersburg. Are any towns much better on the list than others? We are looking for good schools and a nice town feel.

See, the thing is that we would love to live in Oldham County for the schools but it seems a bit more expensive then what we would like to pay. We are looking in the $125k range and would love a 3 bedroom with at least 1.5 baths. But we do need good schools for our son and future children. I heard that Floyd Knobs is amazing as well but again the homes are expensive.

Either in the Louisville area or Southern Indiana area, which I have learned is like part of Loisville, can some one please tell me safe, good schooled, good priced towns please? I would like good school and a nice house in our price range. I know there must be towns I have not heard much of since I focused so much on Oldham County. We rather live in Kentucky and work in Kentucky. Also very important is having a commute of no more than 40 minutes to Louisville. Thank you so much.

I will be visiting May 25-29 and I need to compile my list of places to see. You all have been such a great help!!!!

The homes in So Ind are much more affordable, but of course, there is a reason. The daily commute across the bridges can be tough, but not if you are from a metropolitan area and are used to it. I think it's fair to say that So Ind is more blue collar than Jefferson and Oldham Counties in Ky.

You may want to look at Bullitt County, or maybe Shelby, Taylor or Spencer, all in Kentucky. A longer commute, but nice and affordable homes. Bullitt is more working class, while the others are still rural in character.

But if there was any way you could swing Oldham County, that is what I would do. Could be the best place to live in Kentucky if you have kids.

I've done extensive research on many different areas with relocation in mind. I have found that, for the most part, the best school zones are in areas where the real estate is higher. It is possible that if you find a house for $125,000 you can get decent schools, but you may not get the very best schools. Something to think about is to look for an area that has magnet schools, which means that they take children from different neighborhoods, so you don't have to be specifically zoned for the school. You might have to enter a school's lottery or apply in some way. It's just something to look into. Best of luck.

I was just checking Craig's List for Louisville, and I saw some affordable houses. You should look and see what you find.
