There's a few. Depends on your lifestyle. Some (who like the city life) probably live in The Gump, most (who like suburban/country life) live in Boones Creek, especially The Ridges.

North Johnson City from the Mall on Roan Street to Exist 17 (Boones Creek) is still a highly desirable area. For schools, Lake Ridge (Carroll Creek Road), Towne Acres (Ferndale Rd) and Fairmont (Rose Ave.) still are the top schools although for diversification and "Thinking outside the box" I would choose South Side (Tree Streets- Southwest Ave) or North Side (Roan St,).

The high end housing is moviing out toward Jonesborough and Gray, but some established neighborhoods are still contenders like Towne Acres, North Hills, Mountcastle Hills. I'd recommend checking all of these out too.
