I am now in Church Hill and I have noticed alot of gun shots, day and evening. What's up? It can't be hunters unless they are pouching.

My guess would be deer hunting.

Deer is currently closed. Bear is open but I don't think many people bear hunt in Church Hill. The only legal night hunting is raccoon/possum and that's not wildly popular either. Also, raccoon/possum hunting, though legal at night, is restricted to small caliber weapons, .22 only I believe.

Legal shooting is 30 minutes past sunset so there may be some legal shots in the late evening, anything other than a .22 after dark is poaching and you should notify the TWRA.

I'm not sure if Church Hill has any sort of ordinance prohibiting shooting firearms within the "city limit" (using that term loosely). Anyway, a lot of good ole boys down in there like to pop beer cans for fun and that may be what you're experiencing.

Check with some of your neighbors, they can probably tell you what's going on.

Default Gun shots are OK!

We live just over the top of Bay's Mountain from you. Yes, there is a fair amount of gunfire. Most of it is because of stray dogs and the few coyotes and foxes. Some is fun and practice. To me, gunfire is the sound of FREEDOM. Don't get upset by it.

I just recently moved up from Florida. To me, gun shots are the sound of a drive-by shooting. I'm still adjusting from being traumatized in Jacksonville.
