Knoxville is larger and has more flights. Surely you'll be booking online, so a price comparison should be simple, but I guess it depends.

Knox was in the top 5 as most expensive airports...If you can, drive to Atlanta or Nashville.

I highly doubt that. Knoxville is certainly more expensive than flying out of Atlanta or (especially) Nashville, but among the top 5 most expensive in the entire country? I'd like to see that list.

Any report can be "flawed", but there are many of them that report Knox to be 5th expensive year after year. Most locals know to make the trip to Nashville and Atlanta, myself included. Just sayin'.

donald, the best thing you can do is search through airfare sites such as expedia.com. I just checked flights on dates (7/30-8/1) roundtrip to Miami and Chatt rates were about $50 cheaper, and $200 cheaper than Knox and Nash's rates.

I flew to Knoxville from Orlando for $59 each way back in May. Atlanta is a 3 hour drive to Knoxville. All depends how you value your time. Is a 3 hour drive (each way) worth saving $30-$40 on a ticket?

You must have used Allegiant. That is the good thing about Knoxville that they have Allegiant, but it only goes to a handful of cities and I've heard some horror stories about all the extra fees they tack on. Did you just take a carry-on to avoid the suitcase fee? They also make you pay for your seat.
And on Expedia, it was a $200 for Atlanta, not $30-$40, and Atl has Southwest, which doesn't tack on suitcase and seating fees.
Sorry, I just know a lot about this, being a huge traveler...
