I went Christmas tree shopping today and it seems that the only type of tree available is a Fraser Fir. Our family really likes Balsam Fir because they really give off a strong pine smell. Does anyone know where I can find Balsam? I've tried a few road side tree stands and Wal-Mart...

Strange request, I know.

Thanks,

Doug

I don't know offhand but perhaps you can call these Christmas Tree Growers and Farms: Tennessee Christmas Tree Growers Association (http://www.tennesseechristmastrees.org/members_map.php - broken link)

They didn't have Balsam Fir on their web site. I'm thinking that maybe they don't grow in this region.

Balsam firs are mostly grown up north. However, I did get one several years ago at the Bluebird Christmas Tree Farm in Heiskell (http://www.tennesseechristmastrees.org/directory.php#10 - broken link). They are not grown there - in fact the owner says none grow around here - but he does ship them in from NC. Call first to be sure. Also, I'm pretty sure I've seen them at Lowe's.

Of course I am not certain of any of this, senility and all, so plan accordingly.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. It looks like y'all are correct. Balsam is grown up north, so Fraser is much more common here in east TN. I got a sweet looking 10' Fraser that was grown in Boone, NC and just cut down around Thanksgiving. It's a beauty and takes up so much room in the tree stand that there isn't much volume left for the water!

I love the tree and bought it at volfirs in Maryville. Thanks for the help!

Doug
