I am just bit paranoid about areas though, must be from living in Florida where you can drive one block and be in the drug infested ghetto and drive another block and be in a very nice area, they were just randomly scattered and more go off of street names where to reside rather than towns and areas.
.

I thought I was the only one who saw this?

Usually anything with street numbers (10th Street, etc) or MLK, MLK, JR, etc...stay the hell away from.

Will be a moving to a job at UT in June. How safe is the area around the campus for rental homes or lease options? Want to stay close to campus 20 mins max to drive.
Love the older homes but how safe is the area? Please help. We cannot wait to move there!

There's crime, but more along the lines of the "pain in the neck" variety, as opposed to violent crime. I belong to a list-serv for Fourth and Gill and they report patio furniture and things being stolen. I've read that a lot of people have to chain their belongings to the porch. There is a large homeless presence in the area.

All in all, the people seem very happy there. If you are from a large city I would suspect that you would enjoy the area. There seems to be less of this shenanigans in Lincoln Park, Whittle Springs and the Fairmont area. There are lovely homes there. Lots of rentals, especially lately.

I urge you to check out craigslist.
