My husband is considering a relocation to the Dandridge, TN area and I need to be steered in the right location for housing.
Currently, we live in rural VA, own a farm of which the house will be rented out and will cover our mortgage and a little more. So having said "I" run a farm, and will be looking for 5-10 mostly open acres and I absolutely, definitely want a cheap, rundown house on it, otherwise I won't move. So what small areas within a close proximity to I-40 should I look in?

5-10 open acres is completely doable. Cheap rundown house, probably. Not including the value of a house, acreage runs around 6-10 thousand an acre. More near the lake.
I also have a small farm right outside Dandridge in the White Pine area.

Hey Tinmountain, congrats on your possible move. I might suggest you check with a few lenders to be sure, even while rented, you can tote the note on a new purchase as most will need a long term lease or contract so the rental does not count against your ltr, or to be sure your able to finance the new. Dandridge should afford many choices and the lender will qualify you and tell you what you can purchase. Good luck and keep us informed.

If you use the search function using Jefferson county as the criteria you'll find numerous threads you may find helpfull.

You can also go to this site: Find Homes By Area to look at real estate listings in Jefferson county.

A visit before making a relocation decision would also be a good idea. We all have different needs and desires and only you can determin whats best for you.
