Hi, I will be homeschooling my daughter next year and would love to move to Tn sometime in the near future. I would love to have a community with other stay at home moms who homeschool and live life at a little slower pace. I would love to be somewhere where neighbors can become good friends and children can play together outside. That said, I would also like to have a little bit of property, and not be right on top of my neighbors. I am also looking for not a lot of traffic and congestion in the area, but some conveniences nearby. Is there any areas like this where one can find a home for 150,000 or less? Any small farm areas around? Thanks in advance for your replies.

welcome fsmith2240, plenty of stay at home moms, and you can find that thru many church sopported groups. It will be hard to find a small farm, for that price, but could find a house and maybe an acre , but depends on how far out you want to locate. Good luck, and Im sure many homeschoolers will respond.

It's definitely not impossible, though. We live in South Knox County/Seymour and live on 7 acres at the end of a dead end road. It cost us less than 85k.

Heading home tomorrow, but Seymour will be our next home.
A very nice area. I would recommend looking in the Sevier County portion as the taxes are lower than Blount County. Seymour straddles both, plus a bit of Knox County. No city as such, but a great area to be.
We have an offer in on a house, but if it doesn't work out we will be back in July for another try. LOTS of places available and the market is still dropping in price a bit. If we don't find one in July we will probably rent and buy land to build on when we move in August.

On the way back to Calif. The owners did not accept our offer and countered way too high. We actually offered more than their neighbors house just sold for. Similar lots, houses, etc. Oh well probably it will be on the market when we get back.
Next trip we are changing what we look for and at. We now have a better feel for the area, homes and market. We should still be there again in July and move in August.

Seymour, great area, and if someone is looking for a first time purchase, then the USDA Rural loans are available for that area, which means, 100% financing, if house can pass inspection. Good luck, on your next visit.

And you can always rent first, too. I am so thankful that I rented for almost three years before I bought. There's a lot of things that you just won't see until months after you get here, good and bad. You'll get a real feel for things.
And be careful, too. Lots of folks think people coming from California will overspend. Something to think about.
