Anyone know if Fort Dickerson park is still known for shady activity? We went there to eat lunch yesterday. There were 2 vehicles there (at the top lot) and they both left within minutes of our arrival. While we ate at least 5 vehicles came up, circled around and left. What are they looking for? Or do they want the place to themselves? I go to a lot of parks but never see this.

Sounds like there were guys looking for a rendez-vous. It does have a history that way. But it is not dangerous, especially for a woman or a mixed group. The lake at the bottom of the park is very popular for swimming. Its entrance is on Augusta st near the RR crossing.

A couple more scenic spots if you don't mind a short walk are off Cherokee trail near the water tower. River bluff is the gravel parking lot and it has the best view. Higher ground is the paved lot and there are adirondack chairs grouped at the end of the trail.

Thanks! Have been to Higher Ground, haven't found River Bluff yet. There used to be a dirt parking lot across from higher ground, but now it's fenced off.

When did you see the dirt parking lot fenced off? I've seen people parking there within the last week or so. Mostly people park up near the road as the lower parking area is pretty washed out.

It was quite a while ago - maybe even a year. Glad to know it's open again.

Hubby, I and the little sprout went out for a hike there just a few months ago. It was very nice. Had a hell of a time getting to the bottom of the quarry and back but we had a good time. Funny thing is I remember walking back to our car that we parked at the quarry overlook (forgot the name) but I remember thinking there was a guy looking at us so much as we got into our car, I was wondering if he didn't tamper with it. LOL.

Weirdness is confined to the top. Unless you find a horde of 20-somethings weird. There couldn't be a bigger contrast between the top and the bottom. And you don't have to park at the top to hike to the quarry.
