Hi!

I'm looking for a house no more than $100K and found one I love in the Morningside area by the Morningside park. Is this area safe? As a female, could I walk the streets at night? Would we need a security system? Is there a lot of crime in the area? What are the people like that live in the area (I'm in my 20's and newly engaged without kids)?

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Nicole

I would not live there if I were you. That neighborhood is very close to some large public housing projects. There are some clean, smaller homes around there but also some huge old homes that are now abandoned and rat-infested.

With a budget of less than $100k you can find homes in your price range in cleaner, safer neighborhoods in North Knoxville and South Knoxville. Let us know your parameters and we can probably help you find something.

Area safe? NO. Female walking the streets at night? NO. Need a security system? Probably YES. A lot of crime? Check the stats.

Oh no! That's bad news. I still may check it out because I love the house so much! haha

Does anyone reading live in Morningside or know anyone who does? Are there any positives to the area? I'm holding out hope that maybe it's gotten better in recent years....?

I promise you we're not making all this up. That is not a good part of town. What about the house makes you want to ignore the warnings and move there anyway? Knoxville has many wonderful neighborhoods with cute, affordable homes under $100k that are also convenient to downtown and the university. Morningside isn't one of them.

Since you're so in love with the house, and not happy with the sage advice that was given here, I suggest you pick a nice quiet evening and knock on some doors on that street where the house is, introduce yourself and ask the residents how much they like living in Morningside. I'm sure they'll be very helpful and friendly to you.

Well, I actually found another option that's not as big but much more affordable. It's in the Burlington area. Is this area any better? It's 3 minutes from Chilhowee park.

I can understand your love fro Morningside as it is a beautiful area. If there were guys and dogs in your household it might be worthy of consideration, assuming you wrere diplomatic and streetwise.

Dave is being sarcastic. Don't knock on doors in the evening.
