Hello, I'm moving to Las Vegas to enroll in CSN's culinary program. This program takes place at the Cheyenne campus. I'm hoping to find an inexpensive but safe place to live that is easy driving distance to the campus, but still fairly close to the strip, as I'm hoping to eventually find entry restaurant work there. Any suggestions? Also, I am thirty and still like to go out to bars and restaurants so an area with a bit of a social life would be optimal.

we live at lake mead and buffalo, which is not far from the campus. it takes us 15 minutes from home to flamingo/LV Blvd on a sunday, 20 minutes all other times, unless there's traffic. then it takes 30+.

there are lots of rentals in this area of east summerlin.

the beautiful thing about the valley is that it's only 30+ miles across. you can be just about anywhere in less than 45 minutes.

Actually you are close to the Charleston campus. The Cheyenne campus is near Cheyenne and I-15.

I agree, Summerlin is too far. I was thinking Aliente or the nicer parts of NLV, say near Ann and Allen. That'll get you close enough without being in a bad area. But there aren't many pubs/restaurants/hang out spots. Maybe even Sunrise Mt? Anywhere too close to the strip or too close to the actual campus you may not like so much.....but opinions vary.

Is it safe to live around Cheyenne and I-15? I've been looking at GoogleMaps trying to get a grip on where this is in relation to everwhere else. Rental prices are pretty inexpensive in this area. Just wondering if it's an ok place to live, safety-wise...

No. This area is not a nice part of town. The neighborhood casino sells a shrimp and steak dinner for $2.99. Stay away.

There is no obvious place if strip access is actually needed.

Ideally for that Campus you would live west a ways...someplace west of 15 an north of Craig. That however is awkward for strip access.

You might consider downtown. That would provide the social stuff and reasonable access to both places. You need urban skills to live in that area.

If you drive West on Cheyenne all the way to 95 freeway, the West side of the freeway (West Cheyenne) is generally nicer compared to the East side of 95 (East Cheyenne). Drive time to the Strip from West Cheyenne on 95 varies but generally around 20 - 30 minutes. Drive time on Interstate 15 around Cheyenne Ave to the Strip is pretty much the same now that I15 has added lanes.

It is a short drive from West Cheyenne to the CSN Cheyenne Campus.
