Dear Las Vegas,

It saddens me to say this but I'm afraid that for now, I am going to have to part ways with you. Its nothing personal, and I do love you. You're an amazing city and I do not regret moving here one bit. The past two years of my life have been absolutely amazing. I've gotten to do, experience, and see everything I had dreamed about doing before I came here.

I got to work on the Las Vegas strip, I got to party hard, I picked up some VERY beautiful women, I got to go to Mount Charleston, hike at Red Rock Canyon, make trips to Los Angeles, something I had dreamed of since I was a kid. I've met celebrities, Ive seen the most beautiful sunsets and have met some of the most amazing people whom I will never forget. And I lived in your two best neighborhoods, Centennial Hills and Summerlin. Had I listened to my friends and family who advised me not to move to this amazing city, I would never have done any of it. I am a better person for all that

I have chosen to part ways for that of an educational purpose. I am heading back to Orlando, FL to further my education. I plan to enroll in Universal Technical Institue to pursue my passion for cars and become an automotive technician and become a certified Nissan tech in their Nissan program. I also dearly miss my family and my old friends from high school, and since my father's passing two months ago, the urge to return home is stronger than ever

I decided to further my education because I am sick and tired of chasing after my money, going from crap sales job to crap sales job. Its time I learned something, get a career and make some real money. When I graduate from UTI this time next year, I will decide if returning to Las Vegas is right for me. I will have an education, and an ability to have a secure job and make good money to support myself and the lifestyle that I seek

A lot of people back east see me coming back as "He failed" but I didn't fail. My dreams in Las Vegas all came true and in spite of all the ups and downs that I've had, Im a much better stronger and more mature person for having moved here. And now I am ready to return home, a more confident man, a more ambitious man, and jsut a better man over all. Thank you Las Vegas for helping mold me into the person that I am!

With hopes of Returning soon,
David A.

PS I also want to thank everybody here on City-Data in the Las Vegas forum for being so wonderful and supportive of me offering all your adivce and wise words. I will definitely continue to post on the forum. You are all a bunch of very wonderful and very great people! I truly will miss this city

Well, productive, positive, and kind people are always welcome here. You are welcome back anytime and tell your friends. I think we might have a few vacant houses that you guys could purchase. But let me check on that...

Good luck David! I was in a similar situation when I was in my 20's and I also enrolled in an automotive program back in the Bay Area (but for Ford). I graduated and I always had a passion for cars but my dreams in the automotive world didn't really come true at the time but I don't regret any of the things that I've leaned. Yeah, don't think of your experiences here in Las Vegas as failure, but you can only learn from your mistakes and your experiences. It will make you a better and more rounded person that will make good decisions in the future. I'm sure you will do well in the automotive field if you are passionate about it.

You'll be back just like me. I could never live back in Phoenix other than temporarily. This is my home now.

Davie, anybody who calls you a loser will be doing it to soothe their own inferiority complex. You are anything but a loser. You took a chance, you experienced new things, you overcame adversity, you LIVED.
Never forget what you have experienced. Remember it every time you start a new phase in your life and remind yourself that you can do anything you set your mind to do.
Las Vegas is a wonderful city with so much to offer. Sadly, it's going through a rough patch and you just happened to fall victim to that situation. No one who has followed your story can ever fault you for not giving 110%.
Now, older, wiser, and with a bag full of wonderful memories, you are starting a new phase of your life. It does not matter that you are returning home. You will see everything in a new light.
I truly wish you the best of luck!

It's not like you're running home with your tail between your legs. You took a chance, and it turned out this city wasn't for you. No big deal. You now have the ability to start a story with, "Back when I lived in Las Vegas..." That will usually get people's attention.

You're young. The second best thing about being young is the freedom to move around a lot. (The best thing is the freedom from aches and pains, sore joints and weak eyes.)

As for your choice of career, are you doing this because you're a real car nut? Or because it sounds better than digging ditches?

I would make a list of the top five things I'd gladly do for a living, even if it meant working for free. And dream big. If "porn star, brew master, bass player, stunt driver and marine biologist" are the list, so be it. Cross off the ones where there is no chance (no musical aptitude for instance would negate bass player). Then see what's left, and make one or two of them happen. Otherwise, you're resigning yourself to doing something you don't love. And that's no way to live.

I love what I do now. I loved my last job. And I loved the job before that. Not a bad life, all things considered.

I would like to thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. I am impressed with your ability to overcome the many hurdles and travails. I am also envious that I did not have the same courage as you to live your life, to venture forth into the unknown, and to be free. None of which I have been able to experience. Good luck in your next phase of life, further education is rarely a bad choice. Take care and Godspeed.
