Visiting the Las Vegas area in two weeks to check out some areas to live. After reading some threads, I'll be driving around Henderson and Summerlin. I've checked out some home builder websites too. How is the area Southwest of the airport off of Blue Diamond near the mountains? How is the area North of North Las Vegas? I noticed a small airport there. The area would be Northeast of the airport. Don't have kids and may be more of a second or retirement home.

During my recent visits, I wasn't impressed with the areas next to the 15 frwy and North Las Vegas.

the area southwest of the main airport is very nice. I live there. it's slightly less developed than other areas, but it's only a matter of time.

the other airport is an executive airport... not really for commercial flights, general aviation.

I'm aware of the poverty areas adjacent to the strip. Not looking to move in a 'bars on the windows' neighborhood. Every city has crime, but are there boundaries in North Las Vegas or Henderson area, I should NOT check out?

if you are talking about the airport around decatur in nlv.... go farther north..... North of Craig... West of 15....

very nice around centennial/losee for nlv... super nice around aliante.....i certainly would not buy a new build unless you want to lose 20-30k right off the top...

OK. I was thinking of looking on Craig or Cheyanne between 95 and 93. I'll probaby see the problems spilling from Fremont st area? How about further North towards the mountains?

Again, My quadrants, I'll be looking is Henderson to the East, 15 freeway & Blue Diamond to the Southwest, Summerlin to the West and North Las Vegas near the Northern mountains to the North? Actually, going to spend time driving thru neighborhoods instead of locked in the casino.

How important is a view to you?

If it is (and you'll pay extra for it), think of the Las Vegas Valley as a clock face, with the strip in the middle. You'll want to move to the extreme rim of the valley, between 7 o'clock and 10 o'clock, or from 3 o'clock to 4 o'clock.

The west side has much better weather. It's cooler in the summer (and also in the winter, but no biggie), the east side has better views. But some people here compare the east side to living in a demilitarized zone. (It isn't. But you'll pass some sketchy neighborhoods on your way up the hill towards home.)

ScoopLV...Great analogy. Not sure on the view yet. Living in Southern CA, I've seen my share of mountains. Think I may want a city light view. I'll ponder that thought. So you're saying Summerlin is a little cooler than Henderson? So there are more sketchy neighborhoods driving from the strip to Henderson than to Summerlin or Southwest?
