Do yourself a favor and read this report first...

http://www.brookings.edu/~/media/Fil...in_monitor.pdf

"In new national rankings comparing the 100 largest U.S. metro areas, Brookings said Las Vegas ranked No. 96 in the comparison of changes in employment from the economic peak in the second quarter of 2007."

"In that ranking, employment in Las Vegas is down 13.1 percent vs. the average decline nationwide of 4.4 percent"

The job market in Vegas is a huge bummer, so you are right, if your only reason to relocate to Vegas is for work, don't do it. That being said, if you are absolutely dead set on moving to move to Vegas, there are jobs to be had. I don't proclaim to be an expert on job finding in Vegas (see my need a job thread from yesterday), but I have noticed that if you are willing to put yourself out there enough, you can get a job. Your job will suck, and you won't get paid what you want, but you can live. Most of the jobs in Vegas right now are in outbound, commission based sales. If you are willing to put on the facade of the DB sales guy, even if that is completely opposite of who you really are, you can make enough money to support yourself.

Yeah, you're right, ECONOMIC CONDITIONS have changed DRAMATICALLY since MARCH 2012.
No doubt... totally irrelevant.

Try January-December 2011, which is the basis of the article. In December 2010 unemployment was 14.9%. Today it is 12.1%. Not great, but a massive improvement. On top of that, several big projects are under construction or are planned. Your article was written in March 2012, but covers nothing in this year. Once again you are posting dated material as some kind of scare tactic.

The main reason the unemployment rate has dropped is because more and more people's unemployment ran out and they have given up looking for a job. Even the mainstream news has admitted it. There is a small amount of jobs being created, but nothing like the large drop in the unemployment rate would make it appear. This article below is current.

“Unfortunately most of the decline is attributed to erosion in the labor force as opposed to outright improvement,” said Bill Anderson, chief economist for the department.
“The drop is due partly to discouraged workers who have simply given up looking for work,” Anderson said."

The best thing we could do is get the unemployed construction workers out of Vegas.

I know people who lost a job (like two+ years ago), lived on unemployed as long as possible, and I have no idea how they are surviving now. A lot of unemployed people I know aren't seriously looking for a job.

Granted not everyone is like that, but if you can't find a job for 1+ year, why do you still live here? Unless you're a horse and buggy operator, they are probably hiring your profession somewhere in the USA. A friend of mine is relocating (voluntarily) to SLC (IT worker) and she though it would take months to find a job. The first resume she sent out she got a phone interview and they offered her based just off that (no in person interview). Granted that is SLC, but the job situation is not doom and gloom everywhere.
