Hi all

My name is Mario, my wife and i are moving to North Las Vegas. We have done our research and looked at our options. We are relocating from Santo Domingo witch is in the country of the Dominican Republic an island in the Caribbean.

We are both US citizens and are fluent in English and Spanish. We looked at other cities that may have similar climate that we are used to and have decided in Las Vegas.

I am a Professional Photographer and my wife is a Youth Counselor.

We are Christians and thanks to the Lord have found a House of Worship we like in North Las Vegas called C3 Church Las Vegas.

I found the forum and have found some useful information. I will be asking some question soon so i thank in advance all those to take their time to respond.

1. Since it will be my wife and i to start we are looking for a small apartment or home in the $700 dollar range ( better if less ) . We have seen many " Apartment Complex " online that offer pools , health centers , gated , etc. Are theses places real , are they good for semi long term ( 1 year or 2 ) or are they only good for short term.

2. My wife will be in LV in October with a list of the places we have seen online. Can she just drive to these places to see or does one have to make appointments to each one.

3. Is a Real Estate agent worth getting so they can setup the viewings so when my wife gets there they would take her to all the places or is that just a waste of money. If not what would an agent charge ?

Thank you all for now .

It's not NLV but my complex rents 1x1's for $500 and 2x2's for like $675...it's near Charleston and Pecos...clean and quiet. I've been here 1.75 years.

Make sure you have an income before moving here and have a car for each person working, unless miraculously you have the same employer and schedule.

YOu can find apartments in that price range in the better part of NLV. One that comes to mind is Terrasini. The one bedrooms there go for around $700. There are a few apartments and similar also in that area.

Pecos and Charleston will be a little rough with an Hispanic flavor. Livable though.

Thanks Ivoc ... remember i a coming from the Dominican Republic can't get any more Hispanic than that

Thanks Cyborgt800 ..... Cars we will buy 1 to start until we both get a good footing . Income as a photographer i have to work hard like any where i would good to build a clientele. Income for my wife she can find a good job in here field.

But to be honest we are not afraid to work regular jobs to make ends meet until we land what we both want. We are both in our early 40s and only one child in collage not moving with us for now. We have made a budget and will get there with a good year in savings.

Plus i am big on Couponing . I really enjoy it. When i go to visit family and friends state side i end up teaching them tricks

no reason why she can't drive by for a look. but to see the interior, of course you'd need to set that up. a drive by at some point is highly desireable. you want to check for noise, character of your neighbors, graffiti, etc., on weekdays, on weekends. stop by a couple of establishments and talk to the proprietors about the neighborhood. get some intel.

when i arrived to hunt for a house from overseas, i had already cooresponded with an agent and she sent me lists of possibles. when i arrived, we already had an appointment to meet and she drove me around to view the ones i wanted to see from her lists. she didn't charge me a dime. best of luck.

The more homework you do up front the easier the transition will be.

When I came here I found two apartments that were managed by the same company that managed my apartment in Denver...I picked one and simply transferred the lease.

Unfortunately they don't manage anything where I'm going now.
