You can expect a short talk with tips on how to dress, how to conduct yourself in an interview, etc., and in making sure you know what reemployment services are available from Nevada's JobConnect. It is intended to shorten the time people are on UI. Don't go and your benefits will be cut off. But it's not a bad thing and you might actually get something out of it that will help you find a job.

How do I know? I've taken part in them a few times before I retarred from DETR. I've also taken the calls the next day from people who lost their benefits for not showing up. I also helped a lot of people find jobs, and bought many of them work related tools, clothing, and work cards through the CEP (Nevada ESD's Claimant Employment Program), and put hundreds into OJT situations where the State paid for half of their wages for certain periods of time while the employers trained them.

If you call early enough and if you have a job interview conflict ...probably. I don't know who is assigned to do those these days so just call JobConnect and ask about it. If your plans are for a vacation or something you already have an availability problem, at least for that week.

Just like Buzz said, it's no big deal and it can be helpful. They were very nice to me and made sure I knew what resources were available. Counting the wait time it was about an hour.

Be on time and show up. They are serious about that!

Yeppers. If you are not there when the door closes you will be a no-show, and say goodbye to your benefits for that week. At least that's how we were doing it when I was still working.

And go dressed for a job interview., not in your jammies and slippers. And if you have kids, leave them with a sitter.

What if you are going to school one day a week at night and does not interfer with looking for work during the day. If your field or profession is day and not night will they cut your benfits or stop them?

No, but you may have to report it in writing and let them issue you an official determination. How is the question about that worded when you file your weekly claim? If it asks are you going to school then you have to report it. If it only asks if it interferes with looking for work then the answer would be no. I've forgotten how it's worded, but I think it just asks if you attended school that week. So until they issue you a det., your answer would be "yes". Then, and only then, (at least this is the way it used to be) they'd want you to answer "no" so they don't have to keep stopping and starting your weekly claims. A "yes" answer will stop your claim until you give them a form which they will provide. But it doesn't take long. Answering "no" without an official determination could cause you mucho trouble if they audit your claim.

Here is the form for school attendance, but don't just send it blindly. Call ESD and find out who to send it to. They might even tell you on the phone not to worry about a class one night a week, but you want that in writing because it could become a he said - she said later on and an investigator might take a dim view of that. Note, and this is my opinion only, that question #6 is the most important one.
