Ummm, no.

OTOH, have any SNA, AS400, PtPN skills? If you do, you're golden. Remember this is like the financial industry. Very slow to change. They like the security of proprietary networking. The casinos are even about 20 years behind the financials now. IBM is entrenched in this market and they are not accepting of OSI. If you can spoof, you're in.

There are a couple companies building ethernet MANs using fiber or LOS dishes. I see jobs there every now and then. Can you build VLANs and manage spanning tree/BGP? Can you do web dev and SSL? If you are creative and capable of thinking outside the box, there are jobs here. Probably not doing what you thought you were going to do.

There are some other threads here on tech jobs.

It like The Land of Oz...it doesn't matter, they'll just move there anyway...everything will work out wonderfully in their minds...they don't want to hear anything negative...and if they do, they'll just attack it as nonsense.

I am moving there as my hubby's job has made him move to LV and don't want to break up the family. On my front, I have got 6 yrs of IT exp from app programming to Quality and support but all in Open systems.

I am planning to join UNLV for further studies but I have to have a full time job to support myself. I have been applying for the past couple of weeks but ya.. no response... right now, I am planning to give it a break and get a LV address (as I had read in another thread) Will that help? Personally, we don't have any contacts out there for networking.

I want try as much as possible on the job front as I really don't have a choice of another city... Looking for some help from the members of this site to work out my problem.

ParkTwain, thanks for the links.... its been gt8.

Thanks,

travelor123, I'd recommend you pursue the utilities and governments here. They will even pay for your schooling at UNLV. I also suggested "parking" (in a situation similar to yours) do the same. They are good, stable companies to work for. Look into these suggestions, there are more of these in this valley than most people are aware of. They also pay a fair starting wage (more than $10/hour) which is not common anymore.

thanks ackackack. Can anyone provide me with the web links to these organisations. I had also applied at the Venetian for Business Analyst as it fits my profile. But although I had scheduled an interview time immediately, noone called back. Is this common or should I assume that they are not interested ?

any info would be helpful.
