I have been reading about the budget issues in North Las Vegas. How bad is it and how will it affect the residents?

It is real bad. They are now closing their jail because they are so broke. As far as residents, I do not think the budget problems of the city will affect them much, unless they happen to work for the city.

They are closing their jail and renting space from Las Vegas. They claim it will save 11 million this year and 16 million next year. How is that bad?

It is bad if you work for the jail.

I like the part in the article that stated they had to file for emergency because they would have had to lay off 217 people because they did not have enough money to pay the "required" pay raises the Union wanted....

Maybe if all sat down and froze the pay raises as opposed to not having jobs they might be able to maintain....

I know I would rather not have a pay raise (In fact haven't had one since 2010 and looks like might not next year and beyond either) than to have NO JOB at all....

I agree. Unfortunately, a long time belief of union management is to never give back anything even if it means losing jobs. If jobs are lost they can blame city management.

I really don't want to see people lose their jobs because these are people with families. I also have selfish reasons. I don't want to lose police and fire personnel for safety reasons.

The city has huge financial problems and needs to do something. Wouldn't it be best to keep as many people working as possible?

How good can unions be if they prefer people lose jobs to giving up any benefits? Isn't it the job of the union to help keep the members working?

the job of the unions is to keep hardcore unemployable crooks and nerdo wells from scamming jobe in the privaate sector.
